An old soul is the last thing you would expect to find inside Justin Bieber. But all it takes is one listen to the 15 year-old soul-singing phenomenon to realize that he is light years ahead of his manufactured pop peers.

After posting dozens of homemade videos on YouTube in 2007, where the multi-talented Bieber put his impeccable spin on songs from artists like Usher, Ne-Yo and Stevie Wonder, Justin racked up over 10,000,000 views purely from word of mouth.

“I started singing about three years ago,” says the Canadian native who grew up an only child in Stratford, Ontario. “I entered a local singing competition called Stratford Idol. The other people in the competition had been taking singing lessons and had vocal coaches. I wasn’t taking it too seriously at the time, I would just sing around the house. I was only 12 and I got second place.”

In an effort to share his victory with his loved ones, Justin began posting his performance footage online. “I put my singing videos from the competition on YouTube so that my friends and family could watch them,” he says. “But it turned out that other people liked them and they started subscribing to them. That’s how my manager found me. He saw me on YouTube and contacted my family and now I’m signed!”

Seven months after Justin started posting his videos online, former So So Def marketing executive Scooter Braun flew the then 13-year old singer to Atlanta, GA to meet with his elite colleagues. As if Justin’s natural singing talent wasn’t enough to impress Scooter’s inner circle, Braun knew Bieber was also a self-taught musician who plays the drums, guitar, piano and trumpet.

“Right when we flew into Atlanta, Scooter drove us to the studio and Usher was there in the parking lot,” remembers Bieber. “That was my first time ever being out of Canada so I went up to him and was like, ‘Hey Usher, I love your songs, do you want me to sing you one?’ He was like, ‘No little buddy, just come inside, it’s cold out.’”

All it took was a short time online for Usher to realize he was in the company of a future superstar. “A week later Usher flew me back to Atlanta,” says Bieber. “I sang for him and his people and he really wanted to sign me then and there but I still had a meeting with Justin Timberlake who also wanted to sign me. It turned out Usher’s deal was way better. He had L.A. Reid backing him up and Scooter had a lot of really good connections in Atlanta. I always tease Usher now and remind him he how he blew me off the first time we met.”

In October of 2008, Justin Bieber officially signed to Island Records. His debut album, My World is an intimate look into the mind of a budding young renaissance man. With production from star hit men like The Dream and Tricky Stewart who produced “Umbrella” for Rihanna and Beyonce’s latest smash, “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It),” Justin has everything he needs to achieve pop supremacy.

His first single, “One Time” produced by Tricky, is about one of Justin’s favorite topics, puppy love. Usher joins Justin on “First Dance” where the two share verses on a song that Bieber describes as, “A slow groovy song that people can dance to.” On the Midi-Mafia produced “Down to Earth” Justin digs deep to talk about growing up. “Bigger” finds the teenaged singer maturing at a steady rate, while motivating his listeners to strive for their goals.

“I’m looking forward to influencing others in a positive way,” says Justin. “My message is you can do anything if you just put your mind to it. I grew up below the poverty line; I didn’t have as much as other people did. I think it made me stronger as a person it built my character. Now I have a 4.0 grade point average and I want to go to college and just become a better person.”

A virtually untapped well of natural artistic talent, Justin Bieber is primed to be a solid force in music for many years to come. “I think older people can appreciate my music because I really show my heart when I sing, and it’s not corny,” he says. “I think I can grow as an artist and my fans will grow with me.” And just think, he’s just getting started.

Not even in possession of a driver's license – "I have my permit," he assures – the 15-year-old has already landed four songs from his debut album My World on the charts, including the hit "One Time."

But despite his tender age, there is more to Justin Bieber. Here are five things you didn't know about the teen dream.

1. He was raised in Canada, but currently lives in Atlanta
"I grew up in Stratford, Ontario," he says. "It's a little town of like 30,000 people." He's since moved to Atlanta with his mother to record and absorb from his mentor Usher, who also resides in Atlanta. "Usher is like a big brother," says Bieber.

2. He's on the market
"I'm single and ready to mingle," he proclaims. Indeed: Asked if he's shocked by the great attention he's been receiving from ladies, Bieber replied, "Not really. It's awesome. What 15-year-old boy wouldn't want girls chasing after them all day long?"

3. He's pals with Taylor Swift
"We talk on AIM and I text her every once in a while," Bieber says about the country singer. "We're friends. Taylor is a really nice person."

4. He wants to go to college
He doesn't fill his time playing PlayStation or watching videos of Michael Jackson, one of his influences, on his tour bus. Instead Bieber hits the books. "I have a tutor," he says. "I want to go to college. As Asher Roth says, I think college would be a blast." And a prospective major? "I'm good at English," he says. "I like to write."

5. He plays four instruments
He's a wiz on the guitar, piano, drums and trumpet. And though he's pretty sure picking up another instrument would be difficult, he says he's up for the challenge, noting, "It would be cool to learn the violin."

Since the first radio broadcasts there has been a phenomena: the teenage pop star. Many hit the airwaves as an overnight sensation, only to disappear within a few years. In rare cases their appeal endures: Frank Sinatra began his career as a teenage heartthrob; The Beatles attracted early attention singing simple melodies that tugged on the heartstrings of adoring young girls. But the majority of teen singers simply fade into obscurity.

But don't tell that to Justin Bieber, the 15-year-old singing sensation from Stratford, Ont. who has taken the pop music world by storm and whose career shows no signs of abating.

"Five years down the road, said Bieber, in an interview with W5, " I see myself furthering my career maybe win a Grammy."

With Justin there's a modern twist: He was discovered on the Internet. He posted a video of himself singing at a talent contest when Scooter Braun, a talent hungry record industry manager in Atlanta happened on 12-year-old Justin.

Twenty-five year old Scooter Braun wanted to make his mark in the music business by finding the next Michael Jackson. When he clicked on Bieber's home-made video, he knew he had found something special.

"I was really impressed with you know, how young he was and how he was holding the crowd and with his guitar and you know he was raw talent. And my gut just went off and I said, I need to find this kid," said Braun.

The music manager flew Justin and his mother to Atlanta and, through Braun's connections in music industry, soon Justin was auditioning for pop celebrities Usher and Justin Timberlake. Both immediately saw star potential and pursued the youngster to sign a record deal. In the end Braun negotiated a deal with Usher as co-executive producer for Bieber's debut CD 'My World.'

Now, at the ripe old age of 15, Justin Bieber is the It-Boy of the moment. My World immediately became the top ranked album in Canada when it was released in November. In the U.S., My World was hit the Billboard charts with 4 songs on the Top 20. His video, One Time, has been viewed more than one hundred million times on the Internet.

Young tween girls can't seem to get enough of Justin and sometimes it gets out of hand. Last fall, Justin was schedule to sign autographs at a Long Island, New York mall. Three thousand screaming girls almost caused a riot and four people were taken to hospital.

But, according to some music industry experts, whether Justin Bieber is just another poster boy-child for young girls or a real talent who has staying-power remains to be seen. According to Jake Gold, a veteran music executive and former judge on Canadian Idol, it'll take five years before Bieber really establishes himself as a credible artist. "There's only so much marketing and PR you can do, " said Gold, "ultimately he's going to have to stand on his own talent, if he truly is talented."

Gold told W5 that will only happen when the hype dies down and Justin gets down to the real business of music: singing, playing and writing music. But in the meantime, Justin Bieber is happy to bask in the glorious glow of stardom.

"I love being on stage. I love to be able to perform for my fans," said Bieber. "I like to get to see their smile and being able to hear their screaming because I'm doing something that they want. I really love to perform.

Justin Drew Bieber (born on March 1, 1994) is a pop singer from Stratford, Ontario, Canada.

Bieber was 12 years old when he entered a local singing competition in Stratford. In late 2007 Justin and his mother started posting videos on MeTube so that his family and friends that couldn’t make it would be able to see his performances.
